Routine and Drills

Does it seem contradictory to tell you in one article to avoid routine and then in another to tell you to train for drills?  Please allow me to explain why this is not the case.

Whether you are training for fitness or dog training, you should always vary your training.  So having the discipline to routinely train is absolutely critical to developing and maintaining your skill.  However you must also vary the actual drills and training focus.  Ensure that you do not get into ruts.  Continue to reinforce the things that you have already learned so that those skills do not perish, but use your imagination to be constantly varying the way that those skills are introduced.  And remember, always use proper technique, no matter what you are working at.

Until next time, this is Joel with Dunetos K-9 helping sharpen your world…one dog at a time.
